Luiz de Basto – DeBasto Design
Luiz de Basto has been involved in the yacht design field for 3 decades designing more than 250 boats and yachts for over 40 yards and supporting clients coming from all over. Through his work, back in 1995, he founded DeBasto Designs, a multi-disciplinary yacht design firm based in Miami.
The firm specializes exclusively in the design of luxury yachts, custom and production boats and unique commercial vessels. From the preliminary concept to the space planning, styling, and interior design, creativity and excellence are the main considerations, always with a constant awareness of function.
Over the years DeBasto Design has been commissioned to design a wide variety of vessels in terms of size, styling and type. Luiz established the company with an interest to achieve excellence, through that instinctive search for the best solution, for the ideal form, for the small detail that will take the anonymous out of the yacht, give her its own life and presence.
DeBasto Design serves a global clientele including individual yacht owners as well as shipyards and manufacturers. Their designs reflect the client’s needs and come with a large experience delivering exteriors and interiors designs from production boats for shipyards such as Magnum Marine, Cruisers, Trinity, Newcastle, Sea Force 9, Astondoa, Filippetti Yachts, Intermarine, Canados, Cheoy Lee, Kingship, Krogen, Lazzara, Inace, to super yachts like the award winning 90 meters DAR, build by Oceanco, or the 103′ Northland build by Burger or the 53 meters Tala by Turquoise.

Laura Pomponi – Luxury Projects Design Studio
Laura Pomponi was born in Rome but grew up in Ancona, Italy. She has always been surrounded by fashion designers, including her special grandmother! Growing up, in the summer, she used to go to the monastery to learn the complicated art of embroidery. Then, when she became a teenages, her family sent her off to England to study English. Then she decided to study engineering following her passion for math and complicated equations. After graduating with a PHD, she worked for the biggest Italian hi-tech Company, Telecom Italia Mobiles, which allowed her to travel the world, before coming back in 2002 to her home city, Ancona, accepting the challenge to work for one of the most important Italian Shipbuilders.
In 2008, after a long experience in Superyachts project management, together with her strong passion for art and design, for material research and for always finding innovative applications, she decided to put the entrepreneurial ambitions she had since childhood into action by founding the Luxury Projects Design Studio and Atelier, headquartered in Ancona (Italy).
Luxury Projects is made up of a strong team of 15 individuals coming from different nationalities and various backgrounds and disciplines. Although the residential side of design is still something that is very present within the business, its heart really lies in superyacht design.
The current aim is to seriously expand Design Atelier in Ancona and currently is realizing additional work stations for decorators, designers and administrators as well as expanding to a 600 square meters showroom and reception area to receive clients and show what the company can do for them.
Key milestones: “A recent one is opening a new office in Viareggio that sees production of architectural drawings, project management provision and technical assistance while being able to receive clients in a laid-back and homey atmosphere.”
Favourite Yacht Design: “Talking about a new build, for sure AMELS MY MOONSTONE has been an amazing experience as a first Dutch yacht built from scratch. From creating a concept for a yacht to be built on speculation, trying to imagine and to create the best interior selling points, to the new Owners’ selected bespoke LP designed loose furniture, lights, linens, accessories and delivered in less than four months… A real challenge with a great success thanks to teamwork and great project managing. With our dedicated Italian Suppliers and Artisan Workshops we realised an on-time delivery and installation with astonishing quality. It’s amazing what we achieved, the result is all we have dreamed of and we are so very proud!
As concerns a refitting project, the MY NERO Luxury Projects team succeeded in merging contemporary luxury and true custom design details, balancing them with the original classical theme of the yacht.
